ANAC International Aerobic Championships 2018

July 27, 2019

We could not be more proud of Amelia, Claire and Bek for representing their country and club at the ANAC International Aerobic Championships in Pheonix, Arizona this week. Amelia and Claire, along with their teammates from Loreto Gymnastics Club placed 4th for their Senior AeroDance Group, in an extremely competitive section (narrowly missing out on a medal by only 0.2!). They have worked so hard this year, pushing through the early morning trainings, injuries and conflicting schedules, to pull out an outstanding routine!

Amelia, who was selected as Australia's flag bearer, performed her Senior AeroDance Individual in a very competitive section, narrowly missing out on finals due to the '3 country rule' (also by only 0.2!).

The competition has been a fantastic experience for both athletes and Bek as a National Coach, with lots of memories created and friends made! Congratulations to the entire Australian team on yet another successful tour.

Special recognition to Georgia for coming along and supporting the team, despite her unfortunate injury the week before Nationals.⁣

Team Fiji Make Their International AeroGym Debut

September 22, 2018

A big congratulations to Team Fiji for making history this weekend, as the first ever emerging Oceania Gymnastics Federation to compete internationally at our National Clubs Carnival on the Gold Coast. Following our AeroGym development tour to Fiji in April, we were blown away at their enthusiastic adoption of the sport and selected three budding aerobic gymnastics to sponsor to compete at the NCC. Jonacani, Jennifer and So’ula along with teammates Savannah and Isabella, have been working extremely hard with coach Michelle over the past few months to get their routines ready to compete.

Team Fiji’s energy, passion and determination were admiring to see, and their pure excitement and joy to be on stage were infectious! Team Fiji competed in the Level 3 and 4 Individual and Multiple categories, each performing solid routines and thoroughly enjoying the experience, coach Michelle even winning a gold medal!

After the competition we were lucky enough to share some of Queensland’s attractions with the team, enjoying fun and well-deserved day at Wet’n’Wild. We have loved the opportunity to share our knowledge to nurture and support Team Fiji’s journey and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Aerobic Gymnastics in Fiji.

MGS Fiji AeroGym Development Tour

April 04, 2019

Earlier this month, Alice and Bek conducted a self-funded development tour to Fiji to share their talents and knowledge of Aerobic Gymnastics, a recently introduced, yet rapidly growing sport in Fiji. AeroGym in Fiji has been adopted with great enthusiasm - not only in schools but also in rural villages and professional workplaces.

Our trip began in the wake of Cyclone Josie, with floodwaters luckily subsiding upon our arrival. We were warmly greeted by the team at VOU Dance School in Nadi, where we ran a number of workshops for coaches, judges and gymnasts, sharing an introduction to aerobics, its rules and other tips and tricks. We were amazed at the energy, eagerness and raw talent that these gymnastics brought to the sport with no prior training.

We were also lucky enough to spend a day with the beautiful women of Dranikula Village. After a 3 hour journey, we were treated to a Sevusevu (traditional Fijian Kava Ceremony), before meeting the rest of the village. This team of 40 ladies absolutely love AeroGym, and wake up before sunrise each day to practice their routine – aerobics with a bit of Fijian flavour thrown in! Their energy and laughter was infectious, and it was amazing to see how much fun they were having, while also dramatically improving their health and fitness.

A big thank you to the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji Sport Development Officers, Stino, Michelle and Melaia for their support throughout our trip, Brooke Kneebush for all her hard work promoting our workshops, and to the Victorian Aerobics community for donating leotards.
